In the arsenal of tools provided to an advocate, an advocate’s request occupies a special place. The law gives an advocate the right to make advocate’s requests, including to obtain documents’ copies, to:
- state authorities, local authorities, their officials and employees;
- enterprises, institutions, organizations, public associations;
- individuals.
What are the benefits of an advocate’s request?
When a person exercises his/her right to counsel, it’s important that the needed information is provided as soon as possible. This is the benefit of an advocate’s request:
- little time is given for consideration of the request and replying to it. The law establishes that the recipient of the request should respond to it within 5 working days;
- for providing incomplete information, untimely provision of the information or failure to provide a response, administrative responsibility is provided.
